THE BUSINESS CLOWN

While starting up your business, did you take the time to figure out and write down what you want to be known for? Did you research your industry to figure out what your BRAND is going to be and what your brand will be known for? Or did you raise the capital and decided I know enough to start my business I will learn as I go? If you haven’t taken the time to study your industry or how you are going to build your professional, personal and on-line brand here are some things to think about. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO BE KNOWN FOR? Ask yourself this, if you are in a room full of people that you see often in different business and or social settings will they be able to tell you what your brand is? Would you like the answer to that question?

  • Juggler – You own many businesses but no one is sure what your brand is. “Jack of All Trades but a Master of None”.
  • Acrobats or Trapeze Artist – On the go all the time, no one can ever catch you at your office, office phone or cell. Worst you don’t return calls or e-mails, poor follow-up skills
  • Lion Tamer – Always professional, good networker at events BUT no one knows what you do
  • Clowns – (over five years in business) Has NO Website, No On-line presences, going to events passing out business cards but never follow up and or make appointments never keep them, no real commitment
  • Magician – Their mouth is quicker then their movement to actually getting anything done business wises, every time you see them at events they will say to you we’ve got to work together. Or I going to call you tomorrow we need to talk about partnering. They even go so far as to set up a meeting with you and when it’s time to meet you end up staring at an empty chair.
  • Ring Master – Very Professional, run their business professionally, building their brand on and off line, reliable, committed, but trying to negotiate between the circus performers and the business world.

When you here these BRANDS what comes to mind? Coca Cola, Donald Trump, Magic Johnson, Lisa Price, Vera Moore, Essence Magazine etc. I could go on and on. The number one thing that comes to mind is brand recognition these people and brands are recognizable, you instantly get an impression when you think of these things.
